About Us

Joan M. Lowry, president and owner of NJ Heirs and Ancestors, is an experienced genealogist who has been providing forensic and family genealogy services since 1984. Joan is involved in local, state, and national genealogical and historical organizations. As a trustee of the Genealogical Society of New Jersey since 1994, she currently chairs the membership and legislative issues committees and served as president from 2003 through 2010.

In addition to being a contributor to publications produced by GSNJ, Joan actively promotes the preservation and dissemination of historical and public records through historical preservation efforts and the creation of public record searching resources for genealogy and personal use, alike.

She serves as the New Jersey liaison to the Records Preservation and Access Committee, a joint committee of the Federation of Genealogical Societies, the National Genealogical Society, and the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies. She is a trustee of the Advocates for New Jersey History and a member of the New Jersey State Historical Records Advisory Board.

All principals and associates of NJ Heirs and Ancestors are members of the Association of Professional Genealogists and continue their professional development through education and participation in industry events.
